The arches of your feet tend to 'collapse' as you get older Abi, so your feet 'lengthen' and that's how you can go up a size, or half size. Find that mine have got wider over the years, as I've spent the last 20 odd years living mostly in trainers, and not 'proper' shoes anymore.
